Given below are various types of stainless steel pipe fitting and their applications in plumbing.
There are numerous types of pipe fittings with varying sizes and plumbing applications. Every fitting is unique and has a varying requirement and use. Pipe fittings can be made from different materials such as iron, brass, PVC, copper, etc.
The numerous types of fittings generally used include:
- Elbow
- Reducer
- Tee type
- Cross type
- Coupling
- Union
- Adaptor
- Olet
- Plug
- Cap
- Valve
Types of pipe fittings used in plumbing work
Elbow:
The most essential job of an elbow fitting is to change the direction of the flow of materials passing through a plumbing system. Elbow fittings are generally available in three angles 22.5, 45, and 90 degrees. Normal elbows are used for pipes and tubes having same diameter throughout the piping system. Elbow fittings can be installed easily as they come with female threading system.
Reducer:
Reducers are just a complex version of Elbow fittings. This fitting is essential in piping applications where there is a change in the diameter of the tube. Reducers reduce the flow size with the reduction in pipe size. There are two types of reducers available:
- Concentric reducer
- Eccentric reducer
Concentric as its name suggests is a conical shaped piece of equipment. The main difference between the two besides the shape is that concentric reducers can often lead to accumulation of air as there is a gradual decrease in size around the corners of the fitting.
Tee type:
These CS A234 WPB Equal Tee Pipe Fittings have a T-shaped structure and 3 holes out of which one is an inlet and two are outlets. The outlets are placed exactly at 90 degrees to the inlet. The application can also be reversed by using the two outlets as inlet and the inlet as an outlet. One can find two types of tee fittings:
- Equal tee- A tee fitting having equal sides
- Unequal tee- A fitting having unequal sides
Cross type:
Cross fittings are like a four-way crossing junction. They have openings in all four directions. All of the four openings have one common meeting point. One of the most common applications where a cross fitting is generally found is a water sprinkler.
Couplings:
Couplings are used to connect pipes or tubes with equal diameters. There are two main types of couplings one can come across;
- Compression coupling: A regular coupling connection two pipes and preventing leakage.
- Slip Coupling: Inner pipe can slide into it. The length damage of the pipes can be fixed. It is easy to install slip couplings.
